Liam Delap put Nottingham Forest firmly in control against Manchester City, netting a superb second goal to make it 2-0 in what is shaping up to be a memorable afternoon for the home side.

The striker's finish was nothing short of outstanding — a clinical effort that underlined his growing influence at the City Ground and gave Forest a commanding cushion over the Premier League champions.

Forest had already drawn first blood earlier in the match, and Delap's contribution ensured the advantage became a genuine lead, putting the hosts in the driving seat heading into the final stages.

Manchester City, who arrived in Nottingham looking to maintain their title challenge, found themselves under real pressure as Forest exploited space with pace and precision throughout the contest.

Delap, who has become an increasingly important figure in Forest's attack this season, converted the opportunity with the kind of composure that belies his age — and the City Ground crowd roared its approval.

The result, if it stands, would represent a significant statement from Forest and would deal a notable blow to City's ambitions. A 2-0 victory against one of the Premier League's most formidable sides is a result that could have implications across the top of the table.
