Jeremy Doku is set to extend his stay at Manchester City, with sources telling BBC Sport the Belgian winger has agreed a new contract running until 2031. An official announcement is expected next week.

Doku, 24, arrived at Etihad Stadium from Rennes for £55.4m in 2023 and made 48 appearances last season, contributing eight goals as City claimed both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He becomes the fourth City player to agree an extension this summer, joining midfielder Phil Foden and defenders Josko Gvardiol and Abdukodir Khusanov in committing to the club.

Gonzalez determined to stay

Midfielder Nico Gonzalez, who joined City from Porto for £50m in January 2024, has spoken firmly against suggestions he could be sold after less than two years at the club.

"I'm happy here," Gonzalez said. "I don't want to leave and I think the club wants me to stay. I haven't seen anything but I'm happy here."

The 24-year-old made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, most memorably scoring a decisive winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton. He featured in both pre-season friendlies against Inter Milan and a K-League XI.

Gonzalez acknowledged his playing time was inconsistent but remained upbeat: "When I play I think I do a really good job. Every chance I got, I tried my best. My dream is to win trophies."

"If I don't play any matches and we win the Champions League next year, I will be so happy," he added.

City relaxed despite limited transfer activity

As August's second week approaches, Manchester City have made just one headline signing this window — midfielder Elliot Anderson, acquired from Nottingham Forest for a club-record £116m. The 23-year-old England international is widely seen as the successor to Bernardo Silva, who left on a free transfer to join Real Madrid.

Teenage winger Jeremy Monga arrived from Leicester and is expected to develop through the academy, while goalkeeper Pierce Charles and winger Mathys Detourbet both joined before being sent out on loan. Vitor Reis, the 20-year-old Brazilian, returns from a season-long loan at Girona and is expected to feature in the first team.

New manager Enzo Maresca confirmed on Tuesday that director of football Hugo Viana and chief executive Ferran Soriano have travelled to South Korea — where City are on pre-season — to pursue transfer business, admitting "we need to do something."

Despite the measured pace, senior sources at the club described the situation as "relaxed," citing full confidence in their transfer strategy. City also pointed to the January arrivals of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi as deals originally earmarked for this summer that were brought forward and have already paid dividends.

Potential departures and incoming targets

On the outgoing side, Rodri has yet to commit to a new deal and is attracting interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is also likely to depart, with Nottingham Forest among those monitoring him. Winger Savinho has been reported as open to leaving, with Tottenham exploring a possible move, though no deal has progressed.

If key players exit, City intend to reinvest. The club holds interest in Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, while talks are ongoing over Lille's Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. The mood around the hierarchy at the Etihad remains composed despite the relative inactivity.
