Durosinmi Sets Sights on Belgian Pro League Golden Boot at Genk

2 hours ago·1 min

Super Eagles striker Rafiu Durosinmi has declared his ambition to win the Belgian Pro League's top scorer title this season, setting himself a landmark target in his first full campaign with Genk.

Durosinmi opened his account for the season by putting Genk ahead against Zulte Waregem on Sunday, only for the hosts to fight back and clinch a 2-1 win on the opening day of the Belgian Pro League season. Despite the defeat, the Nigerian was named Man of the Match for an outstanding individual performance.

Following in famous footsteps

The forward's golden boot ambition carries extra weight given the legacy left at Genk by two Nigerian predecessors. Both Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare lifted the Belgian Pro League's scoring crown during their respective spells at the club, and Durosinmi is determined to join that illustrious line.

"I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that," Durosinmi told DAZN.

Defeat tempers the occasion

Although the Man of the Match recognition offered some consolation, Durosinmi was candid about how the result dulled the moment. "Of course I would have preferred to win, because then this would have been a great moment to celebrate," he added.

Genk will look to bounce back when they welcome Westerlo to the Cegeka Arena on Saturday in their next Belgian Pro League fixture.
