Ederson Signs Atalanta Extension After Manchester United Deal Falls Through

Brazil midfielder Ederson has committed his future to Atalanta, signing a contract extension after his anticipated move to Manchester United collapsed.
United had reached an agreement worth £35 million for the 27-year-old on 2 June, with a medical scheduled for the start of July. Those plans were thrown into disarray when Ederson received a late call-up to the Brazil World Cup squad as cover for the injured Wesley.
Medical concerns end the transfer
Initial tests carried out in the United States raised an area of concern, prompting Ederson to fly to England for further specialist examinations. Those tests took place following Brazil's elimination from the World Cup at the last-16 stage, where they were beaten by Norway.
After specialists reviewed the results, Manchester United chose to withdraw from the deal entirely. While sources had indicated to BBC Sport that a revised agreement could potentially be explored later in the summer, Ederson has since moved to secure his position at Atalanta instead.
The Serie A club have not disclosed the duration of his new contract.
United turn to other midfield options
Manchester United, managed by Michael Carrick, have continued to reshape their squad regardless. The club have brought in midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively, and also added goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United.
