Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed a deal with Belgian Pro League champions Club Brugge to sign Nigerian defensive midfielder Raphael Onyedika, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The Bundesliga club will pay an initial fee of €9 million, with performance-based add-ons potentially increasing that figure. The 25-year-old is set to travel for a medical in the coming days, after which he will put pen to paper on a long-term contract running until 2031 at Deutsche Bank Park.

A trophy-laden spell at Club Brugge

Onyedika arrived at Club Brugge from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2022. In three seasons with Blauw-Zwart, he collected two Belgian Pro League titles, one Belgian Cup, and one Belgian Super Cup, cementing his reputation as one of the most commanding central midfielders in the Belgian top flight.

His absence from Club Brugge's Belgian Super Cup fixture against Union Saint-Gilloise on Friday was confirmed by the club, who cited illness as the reason he could not feature.

The next chapter for a Super Eagles star

The move to Frankfurt marks Onyedika's first foray into German football, and represents a significant step forward in the Super Eagles midfielder's European career. Eintracht Frankfurt, who compete in the Bundesliga, will be counting on his physicality and reading of the game to strengthen their engine room ahead of the new season.
