England Conquer the Azteca in an Unforgettable World Cup Classic

England survived storms, a red card, and a deafening hostile crowd to defeat Mexico 3-2 at the iconic Azteca stadium and advance to the World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami on Saturday.

It was, by any measure, one of England's greatest victories since their 1966 World Cup triumph at Wembley — a win constructed against extraordinary odds in one of football's most atmospheric arenas.

Bellingham leads the charge

Jude Bellingham was at the centre of everything. The midfielder scored twice to put England firmly in control before Mexico began their fightback, and he also produced a crucial goalline block that denied Mexico defender Cesar Montes a goal just before half-time.

Julian Quinones pulled one back for Mexico, and after Jarell Quansah's red card early in the second half, Harry Kane appeared to settle matters by converting a penalty to make it 3-1. But Kane then conceded a spot-kick of his own, allowing Raul Jimenez to reduce the deficit and set up a frantic finale with 11 minutes of added time.

Kane's penalty proved to be the winner, taking his tournament tally to six goals.
