Enyimba Board Rallies Behind Squad Ahead of Inter Lagos Home Clash

1 hour ago·1 min

Enyimba's board of directors, led by chairman Nwankwo Kanu, paid a visit to the players at their training ground on Wednesday, offering words of encouragement ahead of Sunday's EuroMatch/NPFL Matchday 4 fixture against Inter Lagos at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.

The visit marks the first time the board has met the squad this season, and the presence of the FIFA Ambassador alongside fellow directors lifted spirits in the camp ahead of what could prove a pivotal afternoon for the nine-time Nigerian champions.

Why this home match matters

Enyimba enter Sunday's fixture without a point to their name after consecutive away defeats — a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes and a 2-0 reverse against Doma United — making their first home outing of the campaign a must-win situation.

The match against Inter Lagos effectively doubles as Enyimba's first home game of the 2026/27 season. Their scheduled Matchday 3 meeting with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan — another fixture at the Enyimba Stadium — was postponed after 3SC were involved in CAF inter-club competition the previous weekend.

Board pledges full backing

Vice chairman Captain Eric Iheanacho Asogwa addressed the players on behalf of the board, promising unwavering institutional support for the team, the chairman, and the club as a whole.
