Côte d'Ivoire head coach Emerse Fae has spoken of his disappointment after the Elephants were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Round of 32 stage, falling 2-1 to Norway on Tuesday night.
Norway drew first blood through Antonio Nusa, who finished with composure from inside the box six minutes before half-time. Côte d'Ivoire fought back and levelled matters when Amad Diallo converted in the 74th minute, raising hopes of an upset.
Those hopes were extinguished five minutes from time, however, when Erling Haaland stabbed home from close range after latching on to a low cross from Patrick Berg — sending Norway through to the Round of 16.
Fae points to missed chances
Fae acknowledged that his side's inability to take their opportunities proved costly on the night.
