Fenerbahçe Eye Iheanacho as Nigerian Striker's Bursaspor Form Turns Heads
Fenerbahçe are reported to be plotting a January transfer move for Bursaspor forward Kelechi Iheanacho, with the Nigerian international's blistering form in Turkey drawing serious interest from the Istanbul club.
Iheanacho arrived at Bursaspor on a free transfer last summer and has since delivered one of the most electric starts to a season in the Turkish Süper Lig, netting 16 goals and contributing three assists across just 12 league outings for the Green Crocodiles.
Turkish outlet HT Spor reports that Fenerbahçe are monitoring the 30-year-old closely and are weighing a mid-season approach to secure his signature when the transfer window reopens in January.
Title ambitions driving Fenerbahçe's push
Fenerbahçe's interest comes as the club looks to close the gap on city rivals Galatasaray in the title race. The Yellow Canaries sit fifth in the Süper Lig table, having accumulated 16 points from their opening nine matches — a return that falls short of their championship expectations.
Adding a proven finisher of Iheanacho's calibre would represent a significant boost to their attacking resources as they attempt to reignite their campaign in the second half of the season.
Managerial upheaval at the club
Fenerbahçe's push for reinforcements comes amid considerable turbulence in the dugout. İsmail Kartal left his post following a derby defeat to Galatasaray, and former Liverpool winger Dirk Kuyt has since been installed as interim manager as the club seeks to stabilise and rediscover form.
Should a deal for Iheanacho materialise, the Nigerian striker would arrive at a club in the midst of transition — and under pressure to deliver. His ability to find the net at will for Bursaspor suggests he would relish the challenge.
