Fenerbahce Sign Mason Greenwood from Marseille on Four-Year Deal

2 hours ago·2 min

Fenerbahce have completed the signing of English forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille, tying him down on a four-year contract. The Turkish club confirmed the transfer fee at 39 million euros (£33.27m), though the club had previously indicated the total cost would reach 45 million euros (£38.36m).

Greenwood made an immediate impression on his new supporters with a brief message:

"Hello Fenerbahce family, thank you so much for the support you have shown me. I am very happy to be here."

Greenwood's record at Marseille

The forward delivered a remarkable return for Marseille after joining the French club from Manchester United for £26.6m in July 2024. In 81 appearances across all competitions, he scored 48 goals — finishing joint-second in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 golden boot standings with 16 goals, behind Rennes' Esteban Lepaul.

When Greenwood departed Old Trafford, Manchester United confirmed they had secured a "sizeable sell-on fee," understood to be approximately 40 percent of any future transfer profit. That clause will now be triggered, representing a considerable windfall for United.

Background and journey to Turkey

Greenwood's path to Fenerbahce was far from straightforward. A United academy product, he spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Spanish side Getafe after the Premier League club ruled out his return following an internal inquiry — even after charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped in February 2023.

The move to Fenerbahce attracted early attention at boardroom level. Both presidential candidates Aziz Yildirim — who went on to win the election held at the beginning of June — and Hakan Safi publicly expressed their desire to bring Greenwood to the club before the vote.

Fenerbahce's season ahead

Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the fifth consecutive season. They will open their UEFA Champions League campaign in the second qualifying round this month, facing Poland's Gornik Zabrze.
