Floyd Samba announced himself to senior football with a stunning debut double as Manchester City swept aside Norwich City 5-0 in the Carabao Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

The 17-year-old — son of former Premier League defender Chris Samba, who watched on from the stands — opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a stooping header before completing a composed curling finish into the bottom-right corner in the 54th minute to cap a remarkable introduction.

Rayan Cherki added a second in the 32nd minute after latching onto an Ayyoub Bouaddi pass and slotting into the bottom corner. Fellow debutant Allan then made it three in the 48th minute, having earlier provided the assist for Samba's opener, dancing into the box and driving a low effort into the net.

Norwich offered little in response. Substitute Mohamed Toure had a consolation effort disallowed for offside — the visitors failing to register a single shot on target throughout the entire match. Ryan McAidoo rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute to seal an emphatic result for the hosts.

The result extends Enzo Maresca's unbeaten run to six consecutive victories since taking charge following Pep Guardiola's departure — a run made all the more impressive given that Maresca made 10 changes to his starting lineup.
