Flying Eagles Draw Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Togo in WAFU B U-20 Group B

Nigeria's Flying Eagles have landed in a demanding Group B alongside Ghana's Black Satellites, Burkina Faso, and Togo for the upcoming WAFU B U-20 Championship — a tournament that doubles as the qualifying competition for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw took place on Wednesday at the headquarters of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested regional showdown.
Nigeria and Ghana renew fierce rivalry
The grouping pits Nigeria directly against Ghana once more, reigniting one of West Africa's most celebrated youth football rivalries. The two sides last met in the final of the previous edition, where the Flying Eagles edged the Black Satellites 2-1 to claim the title.
Nigeria arrive as back-to-back champions, having won the last two editions of the competition, making them the clear favourites heading into the group stage.
Group A and tournament details
Group A brings together hosts Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, and Niger — three nations equally determined to secure a place at the continental championship.
The championship is scheduled to run from July 26 to August 9, 2026, with all matches taking place in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire. Every result will carry significant weight, as the tournament serves as a direct pathway to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
