Frank Lampard Commits to Coventry City Until 2029 Ahead of Premier League Return

Frank Lampard has committed his future to Coventry City, signing a new contract that ties him to the club until 2029 — three years that will include at least one Premier League season for the Sky Blues.

The 48-year-old had attracted interest from several clubs this summer, with Crystal Palace and Fulham among those linked with his services. Instead, he has chosen to remain at the Midlands club as they prepare for their first top-flight campaign in 25 years.

Lampard arrived at Coventry in November 2024, inheriting a side sitting 17th in the Championship. He steadied the ship immediately, guiding the team to the play-offs in his first partial season before delivering the Championship title last term — with the Sky Blues finishing 11 points clear of second-placed Ipswich.

Lampard's message to fans and ownership

Speaking through the club's official media after putting pen to paper, Lampard said he was proud to extend his stay. "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract, it's a real honour to represent this club," he said.

"After the incredible work of everybody to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy the moment, and we certainly did as a city. Our job then as staff, and for the players of course, is to firstly recharge but also focus on what we want to do and what we need to for next season."

Lampard also paid tribute to the club's supporters and executive chairman Doug King. "The fans first and foremost for how they've supported the team, myself and my staff in allowing us to get to where we've got to," he said. "Thank you to Doug King as well for giving me the opportunity to come to this football club and for his support of us. We know there's a lot to do but we're going to give it everything."

King, for his part, was equally effusive. "Since arriving in November 2024, our club has been on a huge upward trajectory under his leadership," the executive chairman said. "It is absolutely fitting after Championship glory last season that he leads us into our first Premier League season for a generation."

The former Chelsea and England midfielder now turns his full attention to preparing Coventry for the demands of the Premier League — a division the club last graced in 2001.
