FSG Reaffirm Liverpool Commitment Amid Fresh Investment Talks

Fenway Sports Group have held discussions with prominent business figures over potential new investment in Liverpool, with the talks confirming the ownership group's long-term dedication to the club rather than signalling any intention to sell.
Among those reportedly approached is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose personal fortune is estimated at over $250 billion. The outreach was coordinated by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia, who has been leading this latest round of talks on FSG's behalf.
According to TEAMtalk, FSG have no plans to relinquish full ownership of Liverpool. The group is instead seeking minority investors who can contribute to the club's continued growth — a model that echoes the structures seen at Manchester City's City Football Group and Chelsea's BlueCo.
A history of minority investment
This is not the first time Liverpool have opened the door to outside investors. In late 2022, FSG explored a partial sale and sold a minority stake to Dynasty Equity valued between £82 million and £164 million. Back in 2011, NBA star LeBron James and his business partner Maverick Carter also became minority stakeholders, with their holding upgraded a decade later following Liverpool's first Premier League title.
TEAMtalk sources report that FSG principals John W. Henry and Tom Werner "remain as committed as ever to Liverpool and continue to view the club as a long-term cornerstone of the FSG portfolio." Since acquiring the club in 2010, FSG have expanded Anfield's capacity to over 61,000 seats and developed a new training facility.
Eyes on expansion
Beyond fresh investment, FSG are also exploring the acquisition of an affiliate club to operate in a similar fashion to Manchester City's multi-club network. Spanish side Getafe has emerged as one option being considered as a potential sister club to Liverpool.
On the pitch, Liverpool are entering a new chapter under head coach Andoni Iraola, who previously managed Bournemouth. The club spent well over £400 million in the last transfer window, bringing in Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak for nine-figure fees. FourFourTwo understands Liverpool are aware of the need to remain strategically sharp in the market to keep pace with the resources of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool begin their 2026/27 Premier League season with an away fixture against Newcastle United.
