Genk Coach Confirms Yira Sor Heading for Exit Door

1 hour ago·1 min

Genk head coach Jess Thorup has confirmed that Nigerian winger Yira Sor will leave the club before the summer transfer window closes, with the player reportedly already on Turkish soil ahead of a medical with newly promoted Amedspor.

Thorup acknowledged Sor's absence from training, telling Belgian outlet HLN: "I don't know if everything has been signed yet, but I can be honest enough to say that Yira hasn't been at the club for the past two days. He won't be with us this season."

A difficult spell in Belgium

Sor arrived at Genk in January 2023 from Czech First Division side Slavia Prague in a deal worth €6.5 million, but the move never delivered on its promise. Persistent injuries disrupted his development at the Belgian club, limiting his impact throughout his time there.

Now 26, Sor is entering the final year of his contract — a situation that has effectively brought his tenure at Genk to an end ahead of schedule.

Turkey next stop

Amedspor, who secured promotion to Turkey's top flight, are understood to be the destination for Sor. He is expected to complete a medical and finalise personal terms before the deal is made official.

At international level, Sor has earned one senior cap for Nigeria, and a fresh start in Turkey could help him rebuild the momentum his career has lacked since his move to Belgium.
