Gittens Thriving Under Alonso's Guidance at Chelsea
Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens has spoken of a significant boost in confidence since Xabi Alonso took charge of first-team preparations, crediting the new manager with transforming both his physical condition and his mindset ahead of the new season.
Speaking to the club's official channels, Gittens pointed to an injury-disrupted debut campaign as the backdrop to his fresh sense of purpose. "I'm feeling more confident now — in my body as well," he said. "The injury that happened impacted my first season, but I'm feeling better every day. I'm trying to improve every day to be the best version of myself."
The winger was equally effusive about the atmosphere Alonso has cultivated within the squad. "It's been good to be back with the boys. I'm really enjoying it right now and it's been really good to be part of this team," he added.
Alonso's individual approach winning players over
Gittens reserved particular praise for the detail and personal attention Alonso brings to his coaching. "He was a top player and he's obviously a top coach. For him to come in and teach us, it's the best thing for us to improve as a team," he said.
On the specific guidance he has received, Gittens revealed: "He's told me to just keep being positive, to keep taking on players, keep on creating chances and to keep on pushing myself to the maximum." That personal communication — which Gittens described as Alonso speaking to each player individually about areas for growth — appears to have landed well across the dressing room.
Gittens is not alone in his enthusiasm. Teammates Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer have also spoken positively about the new setup, reinforcing the sense of optimism building inside the camp as Chelsea gear up for the season ahead.
