Guimarães Goes AWOL as Newcastle Await Their Captain at La Manga Camp

Bruno Guimarães did not show up at Newcastle United's pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as scheduled on Sunday — raising fresh questions about his future at the club.
The Newcastle captain had been due to link up with his team-mates at the Spanish base on Sunday night but failed to appear. Sky Sports News understands, however, that Guimarães is on his way and is still expected to join the group. Newcastle are said to be fairly relaxed about the situation.
The Brazilian midfielder informed Newcastle bosses last month that he wished to leave for Arsenal, and that request appears to be behind the delay. New head coach Matthias Jaissle — who is set to replace Eddie Howe — is currently in La Manga with the squad and is eager to meet the club captain ahead of the new season.
The situation will be closely monitored as Jaissle looks to put his stamp on Newcastle's preparations, with the status of their captain still unresolved.
