Hamburg are closing in on a permanent move for Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira, with the two clubs in advanced negotiations over a deal understood to be worth €10m (£8.6m).

Arsenal are pushing to complete the sale before Tuesday's transfer deadline, and there is a growing sense at Emirates Stadium that an agreement with the German club is imminent.

A loan spell that turned into something more

Vieira spent the most recent campaign on loan at Hamburg, making 29 Bundesliga appearances and contributing seven goals — a return that has convinced the club to pursue a permanent transfer.

The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder originally arrived at Arsenal from Porto in 2022 in a deal worth £34m. However, he struggled to cement a place in the first team, making 47 appearances in total for the Gunners — with only five of those coming as Premier League starts.

Before his stint in Germany, Vieira was loaned back to Porto during the 2024/25 season as Arsenal searched for a solution to his limited role at Emirates Stadium.

An exit that suits all parties

With the transfer window set to close, Arsenal appear keen to permanently move on Vieira and recoup some of the fee they paid for him three years ago. Hamburg, meanwhile, are eager to retain a player who impressed during his loan spell in the Bundesliga.

If the deal is finalised, it will bring the curtain down on Vieira's time in north London — a chapter that, despite high hopes at the outset, never quite fulfilled its early promise.
