Kai Havertz faces an uncertain spell on the sidelines after limping off during Germany's 1-1 Nations League draw with the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Thursday night, with a hamstring injury prompting his early exit after just 30 minutes.

Germany manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed following the final whistle that Havertz would return to Arsenal to undergo an MRI scan, leaving the Gunners anxiously awaiting the results to determine the full extent of the damage.

Timber challenge sets off a chain of concerns

The trouble began in the first half when Crystal Palace midfielder Quinten Timber — brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber — caught Havertz with a studs-up challenge on his right knee as the striker played a first-time volley. Havertz went to ground immediately and required treatment on the pitch.

Though he attempted to play on after the stoppage, the pain proved too much and Havertz was eventually withdrawn, with a hamstring complaint appearing to be the primary issue despite the initial contact being on his knee.

Germany strike first, but Gakpo spoils Klopp's night

Germany did not let the setback derail their performance entirely. Felix Nmecha broke the deadlock shortly after Havertz departed, giving Klopp's side the lead on what was a significant occasion — the former Liverpool manager's first competitive match in charge of the national team.

However, Cody Gakpo — a player Klopp managed at Liverpool — had the final say, equalising for the Netherlands deep in second-half stoppage time to deny Germany a winning start under their new boss.

Arsenal await the verdict

For Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, the news arrives at an unwelcome moment. Havertz has featured in every Premier League match for the Gunners so far this season, contributing two goals and establishing himself as one of the team's most important attacking options.
