Hull City have shattered their own transfer record with the signing of centre-back Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano, the Championship club confirmed.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season. The undisclosed fee surpasses the £20 million-plus add-ons Hull paid earlier this month for Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos — itself a club record at the time.

Prior to those two deals, Hull's transfer record had been untouched since 2016, when they spent £13 million to bring Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason to the club.
