Benfica Eye Chelsea Defender Adarabioyo in £15 Million Deal
Chelsea central defender Tosin Adarabioyo is attracting serious interest from Portuguese giants Benfica, with the Lisbon club ready to offer around £15 million for the 28-year-old's signature.
According to the BBC, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is looking to trim his squad of central defenders — currently standing at nine — down to four or five. Adarabioyo is among those made available for a permanent transfer, provided Chelsea's £15 million valuation is met.
A familiar face for Marco Silva
Benfica head coach Marco Silva is eager to be reunited with Adarabioyo, having previously worked together at Fulham. Silva is pushing for a permanent deal, and the Portuguese club can sweeten the offer with UEFA Europa League football as an incentive.
Also listed as available by Chelsea are defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, as Alonso continues his overhaul of the backline.
Adarabioyo's Chelsea record
Adarabioyo arrived at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Fulham in July 2024 and has since established himself as a composed, reliable presence in the squad. The tall, ball-playing centre-back has posted strong passing accuracy figures and shown an ability to contribute from set pieces.
However, he has largely operated in a rotational capacity rather than securing a regular starting berth. Last season, he made 16 Premier League appearances and logged limited UEFA Champions League minutes, also dealing with minor injury disruptions along the way.
