Otto Addo Takes Ghana FA to FIFA Over $750,000 in Unpaid Wages and Bonuses

Former Ghana Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has filed a complaint with FIFA against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over outstanding financial obligations stemming from the termination of his contract in March 2026.

Addo is pursuing more than $750,000 in unpaid salaries, bonuses, and other contractual entitlements after the GFA failed to settle his dues following his dismissal.

Fifteen months of unpaid wages

According to Joy Sports reporter Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, Addo is claiming approximately 15 months of unpaid wages alongside additional benefits outlined in his contract. At a reported monthly salary of $50,000, 15 months of arrears alone would total $750,000 — before bonuses and other entitlements are factored in.

Heavy defeats sealed his fate

The GFA terminated Addo's second spell as Black Stars coach on March 31, 2026, following back-to-back friendly defeats that raised serious concerns about the team's readiness for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart, stretching their losing run to four consecutive matches.

The dismissal came just 72 days before the FIFA World Cup 2026, where Ghana were set to face England among other opponents in the group stage.

Addo's second stint in charge

The 50-year-old had returned to the role in March 2024, taking charge of Black Stars for a second time after his initial tenure between 2022 and 2023. His departure now carries not only a footballing but also a significant financial dimension, as his case before FIFA seeks to compel the GFA to honour what he claims are contractual obligations left unsettled.
