Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic has publicly confirmed his club's interest in Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, raising the prospect of a summer move for the 23-year-old Nigerian-born player.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Jakirovic was candid about his admiration for Iroegbunam and the role he envisions for a player of his profile. "I think there is progress in this player," the coach said. "I like how he is playing and he is very experienced. I think we need this profile for a midfielder and I hope we will sign him."

Jakirovic left the door open on the structure of any potential deal. "It could be a loan or permanent transfer," he added. "There is a lot of exchanging. He is in the last year of his contract which is an advantage for us."

A player in demand

Iroegbunam has attracted attention from several Championship clubs, with Hull City among those tracking his situation at Goodison Park. The defensive midfielder joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2024, having previously gained experience on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Last season, Iroegbunam registered two assists in 29 league appearances for Everton — a solid contribution as the Toffees navigated a difficult campaign.

With his contract entering its final year, Hull City believe they hold a financial advantage in any negotiations, whether they pursue a loan arrangement or a permanent acquisition.
