John Stones is in advanced talks with Inter Milan over a free transfer to the Serie A champions, with the Italian club understood to be leading the pursuit ahead of Chelsea and Juventus.

The England centre-back became a free agent after his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of June. Stones, 32, is believed to be close to agreeing a two-year deal at San Siro.

Nine years, 295 appearances

Stones arrived at Manchester City from Everton for £47.5 million in 2016 and went on to make 295 appearances for the club over nine seasons.

During that time, he was a key figure in one of the most decorated eras in English football history. He won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

A decorated international career

At international level, Stones has earned 93 caps for England and was part of the squad that finished third at the World Cup. He began his professional career at Barnsley before his move to Everton launched him onto the national stage.

Inter Milan, who claimed the Serie A title last season, are now pushing to add the experienced defender to their squad as they look to compete on multiple fronts in the season ahead.
