Inter Milan have completed the signing of Curtis Jones from Liverpool for a fee of £30 million (€35 million), bringing an end to the midfielder's 16-year association with the Merseyside club.

Sky Sports News understands a 10 percent sell-on clause has been inserted into the agreement, giving Liverpool a future financial stake in any onward transfer.

A Liverpool boy leaves Anfield

Jones joined Liverpool at just 9 years old and went on to make 228 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals after his first-team debut in the 2018/19 season. The 25-year-old had entered the final year of his contract, making this the natural moment to part ways.

During his time at Anfield, Jones collected an impressive list of honours — two Premier League titles, two Carabao Cups, the FA Cup, and the Club World Cup — while also finishing as a UEFA Champions League runner-up in 2022.

Third England international through Inter's door

Jones becomes the third England international to join Cristian Chivu's Inter Milan this transfer window, following the arrivals of John Stones and Djed Spence at the San Siro side.

Questions for Iraola in midfield

His departure hands Liverpool's new head coach Andoni Iraola a midfield puzzle to solve. Jones made 49 appearances under his predecessor Arne Slot — 34 of them during the club's troubled Premier League title defence — sharing duties across the centre of the pitch with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch, while also filling in at right-back when required.

Iraola has signalled his intention to deploy Florian Wirtz in his preferred No 10 position within a 4-2-3-1 system, which would leave Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, and Gravenberch competing for the two deeper midfield berths.

Wataru Endo and Trey Nyoni — the latter having caught the eye during pre-season — are also available to the Basque coach. Liverpool could yet reinvest the £30 million Jones fee in a replacement before the window closes.
