Iwobi Matches Salah's Premier League Caps Record in Fulham Victory

54 minutes ago·2 min

Alex Iwobi has joined Mohamed Salah as the joint-second most capped African player in Premier League history, reaching the milestone during Fulham's 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.

The Nigerian midfielder made his 328th Premier League appearance — matching Salah's tally — placing both players behind only Kolo Toure, who holds the outright African record with 353 top-flight appearances for former clubs Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

A landmark built across three clubs

Iwobi's 328 appearances are spread across three clubs: 100 for Arsenal, 123 for Everton, and 104 for Fulham. That total makes him Nigeria's most prolific Premier League appearance-maker, surpassing Shola Ameobi's mark of 298.

He will have the chance to move past Salah into outright second place when Fulham travel to Aston Villa in their next league fixture.

Bobb seals victory for Fulham

The record-equalling day unfolded on an otherwise bright afternoon for Fulham. Oscar Bobb delivered the decisive moment in the 80th minute, weaving through a packed penalty area before drilling the ball into the bottom corner to give manager Alvaro Arbeloa's side back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Iwobi started on the left wing and completed 73 minutes before being replaced by Cesar Palacios. Though he did not find the net, he was far from quiet — registering 60 touches, 51 passes at 86.3 percent accuracy, two key passes, three crosses, and one blocked shot from close range after a Josh King effort had struck the bar.

Fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey also started for Fulham and helped the side keep a clean sheet. Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, introduced Nigeria internationals Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi as second-half substitutes.

The result moves Fulham up to 13th in the Premier League table, with eight points gathered from eight matches.
