The 25-year-old departs Molineux with his reputation intact — he was named Wolves' players' player of the season, having won the supporters' equivalent the year before. Former Wolves head coach Rob Edwards captured the sentiment well earlier this year. "He is a wonderful player," Edwards told Sky Sports. "It has been hard for him because in a team that has struggled at times or if you've not got the results, it can be challenging."

A relentless ball-winner

The most striking element of Gomes' game is his appetite for tackles. Across the past three Premier League seasons, he has made 380 tackles — 83 more than any other player in the competition. His combative approach earned him the nickname 'The Pitbull', and opposition fans have long taken notice.
