John Stones Verbally Agrees Free Transfer to Inter Milan

1 hour ago·1 min

John Stones has verbally agreed to join Inter Milan on a free transfer, with the England international's representatives now working to finalise a two-year contract, according to Sky in Italy.

The 32-year-old former Manchester City defender attracted attention from several clubs before Inter moved decisively to secure his signature. Juventus had made contact with Stones's camp over the weekend, while Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea had also registered interest.

Aware of the growing competition for Stones, Inter acted quickly to push through an agreement and close off rival bids from both home and abroad.

Romero remains a target

Inter head coach Christian Chivu's primary defensive target is Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero, though the cost of any deal for the Argentine is expected to be considerable.

There is a scenario in which Inter pursue both Romero and Stones — should Benjamin Pavard depart — but for now it is Stones who remains the Italian champions' immediate priority.
