Julian Alvarez Confirms He Wants Out of Atletico Madrid to Fulfil His Dream

Argentina striker Julian Alvarez has publicly declared his desire to leave Atletico Madrid, telling reporters he wants to "fulfil his dream" — a statement that significantly raises the temperature of one of this summer's most closely watched transfer sagas.
Alvarez made the admission after Argentina's 2-0 FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J victory over Austria, acknowledging that conversations with club officials have already taken place. "I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream," he said. "It's not the time to talk about this, but I also can't hide it. I try to be an honest person."
The 25-year-old's preferred destination is understood to be city rivals Real Madrid, who submitted a £129 million offer for the forward earlier this month — only for Atletico to reject it outright. The Spanish club pointed firmly to a £431 million release clause written into Alvarez's contract as justification for turning down the approach.
A crowded field of suitors
Real Madrid are not alone in their pursuit. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal have all registered interest in Alvarez, making him one of the most coveted attackers in world football this summer. Atletico have reportedly mocked Barcelona's efforts to land the player, signalling the club's firm intention to retain him.
Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 in a deal worth £81 million and is contracted to the club until 2030. The combination of that long-running deal and the enormous release clause makes any potential exit extraordinarily complex, even with the player's public declaration.
"It's not known when it will be resolved," Alvarez added, leaving the timeline of his future uncertain. Atletico Madrid had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
