Julian Alvarez Pushes for Atletico Madrid Exit to 'Fulfil His Dream'

Julian Alvarez has told Atletico Madrid he wants to leave the club, with the Argentina striker declaring he is determined to pursue what he described as his dream move.
"I spoke with the people at Atletico I needed to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream," Alvarez said following Argentina's victory over Austria at the World Cup. "It's not the time to talk about this, but I also can't hide it. I try to be an honest person."
Big clubs circling
Barcelona and Paris St-Germain have both been linked with the 26-year-old, while Atletico rejected a 150 million euro (£130m) approach from Real Madrid earlier in June — a figure that underlines how highly the Spanish club value the Argentine forward.
Alvarez moved to Atletico from Manchester City for £81.5m in the summer of 2024 and has been a regular contributor under manager Diego Simeone, recording 49 goals and 17 assists across 106 appearances.
A tale of two seasons
His debut season in La Liga yielded 17 goals, but his league output dropped to eight in 2025-26. The Champions League, however, told a different story — Alvarez struck 10 times to help Atletico advance to the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Arsenal.
The former River Plate forward is currently with Argentina at the World Cup and has featured as a substitute in their opening two matches as he manages his return from an ankle injury.
