Kanu Calls on Arsenal to Target Champions League Glory After Premier League Triumph

3 hours ago·2 min

Nwankwo Kanu, one of Arsenal's most decorated former players, has urged the club to set their sights firmly on the UEFA Champions League following their Premier League title win.

The ex-Super Eagles captain, who lifted the Champions League trophy with Ajax in 1995, believes Arsenal's domestic triumph has given Mikel Arteta's squad the confidence and momentum to go one step further in Europe.

Kanu's belief in Arsenal's European potential

Kanu pointed to Arsenal's unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League and the squad's high spirits as signs that the Gunners are ready to challenge for Europe's biggest club prize.

"If you look at Arsenal last season, they were the best team in that tournament," he told Brila FM. "Whenever they played, they showed their quality. But they should be more focused on the Champions League now."

The Nigerian legend went further, suggesting the club had the tools to already be European champions. "Arsenal should have won the Champions League. With that style of football and the players they have, they could have," he added.

Credit where it is due for Arteta

Kanu also turned his attention to manager Mikel Arteta, insisting the Spaniard has not received the recognition his achievements deserve.

"If you look at Arteta's record, he came second in the league twice. It's not easy, so there must be something special about him," Kanu said.

"Everybody can see the progress Arsenal have made, but I don't think Arteta gets enough credit for the job he's doing."

Kanu's comments reflect a growing sense of expectation around Arsenal — a club that has rebuilt itself into a genuine European contender under Arteta's careful stewardship.
