English League One side Barnsley have announced the departure of Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali, with the split confirmed as a mutual consent agreement pending ratification by the English Football League.

"We can confirm that Kelechi Nwakali has departed Oakwell by mutual consent, subject to EFL approval," the club said in an official statement. "The Club wishes Kelechi all the best for the future."

Nwakali, 28, arrived at Oakwell in the summer of 2024 after leaving Portuguese side Chaves. The former Arsenal midfielder went on to make 30 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, including 12 league starts during the 2024/25 season.

The Nigerian had earned recognition during his time in South Yorkshire, having been named Barnsley's January Player of the Month before his exit was confirmed.
