Leeds United Eye Zaidu Sanusi as January Transfer Target
Leeds United are eyeing a January move for Nigeria Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi, according to a report by Football Insider.
Manager Daniel Farke's side are looking to bolster their defensive options on the left flank and have pinpointed Sanusi as a priority target when the winter transfer window opens.
Competition and contract uncertainty
Sanusi would arrive at Elland Road to challenge Gabriel Gudmundsson, the Sweden international who has impressed since moving to the club in 2025. Despite Gudmundsson's form, Leeds are determined to add depth and competition at left-back.
The Whites have had their eye on the 29-year-old across the previous two transfer windows but are yet to make a formal approach. That could change in January, with one key factor sharpening Leeds' interest.
Sanusi's contract at Porto runs out at the end of the current season, and the Portuguese club are reportedly unwilling to extend his deal. That situation opens the door for Leeds to negotiate a reduced fee in the winter window — rather than allow him to walk away as a free agent next summer.
A decade of success in Portugal
Sanusi made the move to Porto from fellow Portuguese side Santa Clara in 2020 and has built an impressive record at the Estádio do Dragão, winning two Primeira Liga titles during his time at the club.
At international level, the left-back has earned 32 caps for Nigeria, cementing himself as a key figure in the Super Eagles' defensive setup.
