Leicester City are on the verge of signing Swansea City forward Liam Cullen, with the two clubs in advanced negotiations over a permanent transfer.

Cullen, 27, is a product of the Swansea academy — having joined as an eight-year-old from Kilgetty — and has spent his entire senior career with his boyhood club, making 194 appearances across all competitions and scoring 36 goals.

The Wales international earned his first senior cap and has since accumulated 15 appearances for his country, netting twice. He previously worked under Leicester manager Russell Martin during Martin's tenure at the Swansea.com Stadium, a connection that is understood to have played a role in driving the move forward.

Cullen made his Swansea debut in a 1-0 EFL Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in August 2018 under then-manager Graham Potter. He opened his account for the club with a goal in a dramatic 4-1 victory over Reading on the final day of the 2019-20 season — a result that sealed Steve Cooper's side a place in the Championship play-offs.

Despite his consistent contribution to the club, Cullen has rarely been a guaranteed starter in the number nine role, frequently operating in a deeper position. That pattern has continued at international level, where Wales manager Craig Bellamy has also deployed him away from the forward line.

Cullen still has two years remaining on his contract at Swansea, but a permanent departure to League One Leicester now appears the most likely outcome.

Meanwhile, Swansea are hoping to retain last season's Championship top scorer Zan Vipotnik, while also looking to integrate former Celtic striker Adam Idah more effectively after an injury-disrupted debut campaign. The club have already bolstered their attacking options this summer with the arrivals of wingers Elijah Just and Moussa Yeo, alongside defensive recruits Stephen Welsh, Joseph Opoku, and Leo Walta.
