Lewis Hall has committed his future to Newcastle United, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2031. The 22-year-old left-back has made 107 appearances for the Magpies since arriving in 2023, and it is now clear that Manchester United's pursuit of him this summer was never going to succeed.

Manchester United had identified Hall as a £35 million target after securing Champions League football under Michael Carrick. Yet while the Red Devils were plotting their approach, Hall's bond with Newcastle ran far deeper than a transfer negotiation could ever reach.

A family connection that sealed the deal

In a video released by Newcastle United on X, Hall explained in his own words why leaving was never a genuine option. "My Dad was born up here," Hall said. "It just sort of embedded it into — that's who we supported. I didn't have a choice, really."

Hall acknowledged the weight of playing for the club his family has always supported. "I obviously have a family connection with the club… one of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud. I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle," he revealed.

His feelings extended beyond family ties. "There's never been a moment where I doubted how much I love being here, and how much I love playing for Newcastle," he added. "It means so much to play at St. James Park every week. I never really take it for granted."

Jaissle shuts down United's hopes early

Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle made his position equally clear shortly after the club's opening Premier League fixture against Liverpool. Asked about Manchester United's interest following the match, Jaissle was blunt when speaking to Viaplay. "No chance, no chance," he said, offering no room for ambiguity.

Hall had delivered a strong performance in that game, though he did concede a late penalty to Dominik Szoboszlai in added time. Despite that moment, Newcastle's commitment to retaining him never wavered.

A statement of ambition from Hall

Hall also pointed to his belief in the club's trajectory as a reason for staying. "The fanbase and the support… it's the best in the league. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it's a big thing for me," he said. "I think we can go on to achieve really big things."

That confidence appears well-founded. Newcastle currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, four points ahead of Manchester United. As it stands, the club Hall chose to stay at is outperforming the one that came calling — and Hall himself shows no sign of regretting the decision.
