Liverpool are closing in on Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh, with a third bid expected imminently and reports indicating that an offer above £70 million would likely be enough to convince the Seagulls to sell.

The Reds have already had two offers rejected — Brighton turned down a £50 million bid last Thursday, followed by a second rejection over the weekend — but Liverpool are now preparing an improved proposal. Journalist Foday Manneh, writing on X, described the club as "ready to go with an improved and convincing offer."

Minteh waiting on personal terms

Manneh also noted that Minteh himself is waiting to formalise personal terms once the clubs reach a fee agreement. FourFourTwo understands that the Gambian international is keen on making the move to one of Europe's elite clubs, and that personal terms are not expected to be a sticking point. He has not, however, pushed for a transfer.

Sport Witness reports that £70 million should be sufficient for Brighton to sanction a sale — a figure that would represent more than double what they paid Newcastle United for the winger in 2024. The BBC reported that original fee as £30 million, a deal that also involved Elliot Anderson's move to Nottingham Forest as part of the Magpies' efforts to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.

A proven performer at the Amex

Minteh has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting wide players since arriving at the Amex Stadium, making 66 league appearances over two seasons and thriving alongside Kaoru Mitoma. Notably, he did not feature in Brighton's opening fixture of the current season — a result that may signal his departure is drawing closer.

Brighton's willingness to sell is far from guaranteed. The club reportedly turned down more than £90 million for Mitoma last year, demonstrating their capacity to retain key talent. However, a £70 million profit on Minteh would be a substantial return on their original investment.

Liverpool's wider transfer picture

Minteh is not the only attacking reinforcement on Liverpool's radar this summer. Victor Munoz has already been secured, with the World Cup winner making his debut for the Reds over the weekend. Liverpool may also pursue Bradley Barcola before the transfer window shuts.

Youngster Rio Ngumoha started on the right wing in Brighton manager Andoni Iraola's first game in charge, though Minteh is considered a more natural fit for that position in Liverpool's setup. Liverpool return to Premier League action against Nottingham Forest next week.
