Ademola Lookman was part of the Atlético Madrid starting eleven as Diego Simeone's side swept aside Real Sociedad 3-0 in a La Liga away fixture on Sunday, ending a troubling sequence of defeats.

The Nigerian forward played until the 76th minute before being substituted, contributing to a controlled Atlético performance that belied the underlying statistics — Real Sociedad dominated possession at 54 percent and created the greater share of attacks and corners.

Clinical finish in the closing stages

Despite their dominance with the ball, Real Sociedad were made to pay by a clinical Atlético side that struck decisively in the final minutes. Alejandro Grimaldo broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 84th minute.

Jonathan David doubled the advantage in the 90th minute, before Giuliano Simeone completed the rout with a third goal in the 95th minute. All three goals arrived in a breathless closing stretch that underlined Atlético's efficiency in front of goal.

The result provides significant relief for Atlético, who had suffered consecutive 3-0 and 2-1 defeats — away at Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and at Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League respectively.
