Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto is weighing up a departure from Stamford Bridge this summer, with the London club valuing the Frenchman at more than £75m.

The 23-year-old's position at Chelsea was already under scrutiny before the club reached an agreement in principle to sign Atalanta's Marco Palestra — a fellow right-back — for a fee exceeding £43m. That incoming signing has accelerated uncertainty around Gusto's future.

According to sources who spoke to BBC Sport, Gusto's representatives have held exploratory conversations with several clubs, among them Manchester City. Despite that reported interest, City sources have played down the prospect of a deal, with Chelsea's £75m asking price understood to be a significant obstacle.

City's hunt for a right-back

Manchester City have been without a natural right-back since Kyle Walker left Etihad Stadium in January 2025. Matheus Nunes, 28, stepped into the role having been converted from midfield and excelled — registering one goal and seven assists in the Premier League last season. His performances were so impressive that then manager Pep Guardiola described Nunes as becoming
