Manchester City have reached a £65m agreement with Everton to sign winger Iliman Ndiaye, turning to the Senegalese forward after Liverpool rejected their £80m bid for Cody Gakpo earlier on Monday.

The deal is structured as a £60m guaranteed fee plus £5m in performance-related bonuses. Talks progressed at pace, helped in part by the existing contact between the two clubs over the separate Jack Grealish situation.

Spurs fall back to Mudryk as Ndiaye deal collapses

Tottenham Hotspur had been in advanced discussions with Everton for Ndiaye since Sunday, but a delay stemming from Richarlison's reluctance to commit to a return to Goodison Park effectively stalled those negotiations and allowed City to move in.

With Ndiaye now heading to the Etihad, Spurs have shifted focus and opened talks with Chelsea over a loan move for winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

City's winger crisis driving business

The urgency behind City's move for Ndiaye is clear. Enzo Maresca's side let both Savio and Omar Marmoush leave for Tottenham earlier this month, leaving the squad short of wide options. In Friday's win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, City named no winger on their bench and started Phil Foden out wide — a position Maresca himself acknowledged Foden does not naturally occupy.

Beyond a winger, City are also pursuing a central midfielder before the window shuts. On Monday, they opened separate talks with Chelsea over Enzo Fernandez.

Gakpo stays, Barcola arrives

Liverpool stood firm on Gakpo, turning down City's approach amid concerns over their ability to source an adequate replacement for the Dutch forward. The Merseyside club did, however, complete the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, with Victor Munoz having already joined from Osasuna earlier in the summer.

Tottenham had also pursued Gakpo during this window before pivoting to secure Savio and Marmoush — two players who have now left for City's rivals in what is shaping up to be one of the busiest deadline days of the Premier League era.
