Man City in Active Bouaddi Talks as Fernandez Emerges as Midfield Option

1 hour ago·2 min

Manchester City are in active negotiations with Lille over Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, with personal terms already agreed between the player and the club for some time as both sides work toward a full deal.

The 18-year-old Bouaddi has emerged as a top target for City this summer, and discussions between the clubs remain ongoing despite no agreement yet being reached.

Rodri situation and the Fernandez alternative

City do not consider their talks with Barcelona over Rodri to be active at this stage. The Spanish champions made what City viewed as a derisory opening offer — understood to be in the region of £40 million — for the Spain captain.

Rodri, 30, is due to return to City's training base on Friday after his post-World Cup break. He has one year remaining on his current contract, and City are keen for him to sign an extension. Barcelona, meanwhile, are understood to be weighing up their next move.

Should City need to reinforce further in midfield — particularly if more players depart — Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is among the names on their shortlist. Fernandez shares a strong working relationship with new City manager Enzo Maresca, who worked with him at Chelsea. Chelsea value the Argentina international at £120 million.

Potential departures from the Etihad

On the outgoings side, City are aware that Nottingham Forest have registered interest in Tijjani Reijnders, who joined from AC Milan last summer for £46 million.

Mateo Kovacic is expected to remain at the Etihad and see out the final year of his contract. Nico Gonzalez has expressed a desire to stay, though whether his role will grow under Maresca remains uncertain.

Manager Maresca has said Omar Marmoush will determine his own future at City, drawing a parallel with James Trafford's situation — Trafford has since joined Leeds United. Marmoush is seeking more minutes, and Maresca has indicated the door remains open for him this season.

Savinho, who is a target for Tottenham Hotspur and wants to leave City to join Spurs, has attracted no fresh contact at this stage. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, Marc Guehi, and Elliot Anderson are all due back at the club on Wednesday.
