Maple, Zayu, and Clutch Champion Sustainability at FIFA World Cup 2026

The three official mascots of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ are doing far more than posing for photographs. Maple™ the Moose, Zayu™ the Jaguar, and Clutch™ the Bald Eagle are carrying an environmental message to fans at stadiums and FIFA Fan Festivals across all 16 Host Cities — one mascot, one nation, one call to action.

The planet is our field

FIFA's sustainability awareness activation, titled The Planet is Our Field, connects football's global reach to the urgency of protecting the natural world. Fans encounter the campaign through stadium signage and mascot-themed "player card" roll-up displays positioned on match days.

Each mascot represents its Host Country and pairs a conservation story with a practical, everyday action. Maple, representing Canada, urges fans to choose vegetables, fruits, or plant-based meals, underlining the role forests and moose play in healthy ecosystems. Clutch, representing the United States, promotes walking, cycling, public transit, and carpooling to cut emissions — drawing on the bald eagle's own conservation recovery as proof that collective action works. Zayu, representing Mexico, champions proper waste sorting and recycling while spotlighting the jaguar's essential role in maintaining biodiversity across tropical forests.

By tying these messages to iconic wildlife native to each Host Country, FIFA makes sustainability tangible and memorable within the World Cup experience — reinforcing the idea that every fan has a part to play in protecting the planet.

Every throw-in counts

FIFA has partnered with Coca-Cola on a fan challenge called Every Throw-In Counts, which rewards supporters for taking simple positive actions during the tournament. Whether recycling, using public transport, staying active, or playing football, participants upload a photograph of their action to score goals for their national team and enter the draw for special FIFA World Cup™ prizes.

More than 6,000 fans have already taken part, collectively scoring over 43,000 goals.

The initiative sits within the broader strategic framework set out by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in his Strategic Objectives for the Global Game: 2023–2027, which commits FIFA to promoting sustainable development — with particular emphasis on climate-related matters and human rights.

As the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues, Maple, Zayu, and Clutch will appear at remaining match days and at select FIFA Fan Festival dates across all 16 Host Cities.
