Marc Guehi Fitness Doubt for England's World Cup Quarter-Final Against Norway

England centre-back Marc Guehi is doubtful for the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway in Miami on Saturday after picking up a hamstring strain during the last-16 win over Mexico, according to BBC Sport.

Guehi has been a fixture in Thomas Tuchel's defence over the past four matches, forming England's preferred centre-back partnership alongside Ezri Konsa. The Manchester City defender has played every minute of those games after John Stones started the Group L opener against Croatia.

Assessment ahead of kick-off

England's medical staff are set to evaluate Guehi at training ahead of Saturday's match, where he would face Manchester City team-mate Erling Haaland. The hamstring issue is not considered serious, and Guehi himself is reported to be confident about his availability — but his participation in Thursday's session will be key to Tuchel's planning.

Should Guehi be ruled out, Stones — also a City team-mate of Haaland's — is expected to step in alongside Konsa at centre-back.

Suspension risk adds another layer

Guehi is one of four England players — along with midfielders Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, and left-back Nico O'Reilly — who would be suspended for the semi-final if booked against Norway, provided England advance. That risk could factor into Tuchel's decision if Guehi is not fully fit.

England's defensive situation has already tested Tuchel throughout the tournament. Right-back Reece James has missed the past three matches through injury, with Jarell Quansah and Djed Spence sharing duties in his absence. Quansah is now also suspended after receiving a red card against Mexico, though James could return against Norway.

Guehi, a Chelsea academy graduate who turns 26 on Sunday, has earned 34 caps for England and was among the standout performers during the Three Lions' run to the Euro 2024 final.
