Marseille are weighing up a late move for Arsenal goalkeeper Illan Meslier ahead of the summer transfer deadline, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

Meslier, 26, arrived at Arsenal on a free transfer last month after letting his Leeds United contract expire. He signed a two-year deal at the Emirates, keeping him with the Gunners until June 2028, where he was brought in as backup for David Raya.

The Frenchman made 215 appearances across all competitions during his six seasons at Elland Road, and played a key role as Leeds won promotion to the Premier League in both 2020 and 2025. Despite that record, manager Daniel Farke froze him out of the first team last season, leaving Meslier without a single minute of competitive football since March 2025.

His situation at Arsenal has not improved significantly. Meslier featured only as a substitute in pre-season friendlies against Girona, Real Betis, and Borussia Dortmund, while it was Kepa Arrizabalaga who earned the bench spot for both the Community Shield and Arsenal's opening Premier League win over Coventry.

Marseille's goalkeeping problem

Foot Mercato reports that Marseille officials have taken note of Meslier's difficult situation and are exploring the possibility of a move before the transfer window closes. The Ligue 1 club is eager to add goalkeeping cover for their number one, Jeffrey de Lange, who currently stands as the only senior keeper in Bruno Genesio's squad.

Jelle Van Neck and Theo Vermot are also registered as goalkeepers at the club, but neither has featured in first-team football for Marseille.

According to the report, Meslier has been identified as one of Marseille's top targets in the goalkeeper market, with club officials said to be very impressed by his profile — despite his prolonged absence from competitive action over the past 12 months.
