Rangers manager Derek McInnes has signalled that the club could complete at least one new signing within 48 hours, with a second potentially arriving before their Scottish Premiership season opener away to Dundee United on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, McInnes said he was hopeful of announcing a deal imminently. "We are quite hopeful we've got one done at the minute and hopefully we'll have some news on that in the next 48 hours," he said, adding that the club were pushing to bring in a further reinforcement in time for the Friday fixture.

Attack and defence both targets

The Rangers manager identified a winger and a defender as his primary targets, with the club having already added seven players this summer. McInnes indicated that one incoming signing would be permanent, while a second could arrive on loan, though he expressed a preference for two permanent deals.

Concerns over creativity were highlighted after a goalless pre-season draw at home to West Ham United on Sunday. McInnes stressed the need for players capable of operating in one-on-one situations on either flank to provide service to his strikers. He pointed to Nadiri, Chermiti, Shankland, and Miovski as finishers, but noted that only Chermiti was capable of creating chances independently, while Ryan, Lawrence, and Bojan rely on supply from wide areas.

Defensive depth a concern

Defensive numbers are also a concern, with Rangers facing four matches in 12 days. McInnes confirmed only five senior defenders were available in the final pre-season fixture, and that Ross McCrorie was withdrawn as a precaution after a minor knee knock.

Raskin's future uncertain

Nicolas Raskin, the 25-year-old Belgium midfielder, will not feature at the start of the season. He is expected back from his post-World Cup break only this week, and McInnes acknowledged the club anticipate interest in the player. "We always thought he could be a flight risk this summer on the back of the World Cup, so we've reinforced the midfield area," McInnes said.

Rangers brought in three defensive midfielders this summer in preparation for a potential Raskin departure. McInnes added that if no offers arrive for Raskin, the club will simply have an additional quality option in midfield.

On potential outgoings, the Rangers manager acknowledged there had been "a wee bit of interest in one or two" players, though he declined to name them.
