Moyes Milestone as Everton Host Coventry City in Premier League Friday Night Clash

Matchweek 10 of the 2026/27 Premier League season gets under way on Friday night with a fixture packed with storylines, as Everton welcome Coventry City to Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Moyes on the verge of a historic landmark

Manager David Moyes takes charge of his 592nd match as Everton boss, drawing level with Harry Catterick's club record — set across a remarkable spell from 1961 to 1973 — as the most games managed in the club's 148-year history. The Scot will be eager to mark the occasion with a victory rather than a footnote.

Everton head into the game with momentum, having ended a three-match winless run in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Newcastle United on Monday night. Three more points on Friday would lift the Toffees to fifth place in the table, above rivals Liverpool, ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures.

Jack Grealish remains sidelined, and centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is a doubt after being forced off with cramp at St James' Park.

Lampard faces former employers

The occasion carries extra weight for Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard, who returns to face the club that sacked him in January 2023. It marks his first encounter with Everton since his dismissal — an opportunity he will be keen to make count.

The Sky Blues arrive on Merseyside in encouraging shape after a 3-1 victory over Sunderland last Saturday lifted them clear of the Premier League relegation zone. That result was their third win in five matches, and Coventry will be chasing their first back-to-back top-flight victories since April 2001.

Midfielder Jack Rudoni has been in outstanding form, scoring three goals across the last four matches, and Lampard will be hoping he can extend that run. However, Bobby Thomas, Frank Onyeka, Josh Eccles, and Luke Woolfenden are all expected to miss out through injury.

What to expect

Everton's renewed confidence at home and Moyes's desire to celebrate a historic milestone make the Toffees narrow favourites, though a Coventry side that has found its feet in the Premier League will not make it easy. FourFourTwo predict a 2-1 home victory for Everton.
