New video footage released this week confirms that Neco Williams did handle the ball in the build-up to his disallowed goal during Nottingham Forest's 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur — yet it is unlikely to put the controversy surrounding the VAR decision to rest.

Williams bundled the ball into the net in the 67th minute, but video assistant referee Peter Bankes ruled out the effort for accidental handball. Forest manager Oliver Glasner and Williams himself were insistent after the match that there was no evidence the ball had made contact with an arm.

What the new footage shows

The additional camera angle, which was not available to Bankes during the match, reveals Williams touched the ball with his left arm and then his right forearm before it crossed the line. The footage also shows the ball did not make contact with his head, contradicting Williams' post-match version of events.

The VAR hub operates exclusively with broadcast cameras, and this particular camera was among several that do not transmit as part of live match coverage. Bankes based his decision on the ripple in Williams' shirt visible on the angles he did have access to.
