Newcastle United have shut the door on any deal for left-back Lewis Hall this summer, rejecting an initial approach from Manchester United and making clear the 21-year-old is not available.

Manchester United lodged their interest roughly two weeks ago as they searched for a long-term solution at left-back, but Newcastle turned down the enquiry without hesitation. Hall, an England international, has three years left on his contract at St. James' Park.

Newcastle are themselves looking to bolster their full-back options, which makes any departure for Hall even less likely in the current window.

Shaw the only senior option for Carrick

The rejection leaves manager Michael Carrick with a pressing problem on the left side of his defence. Luke Shaw remains Manchester United's only senior left-back following Tyrell Malacia's departure on a free transfer, and Shaw himself has just one year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports News had identified Hall as a target being considered by the club as far back as March, as United began their search for a long-term successor to Shaw. That search continues, with Newcastle's firm stance forcing the club to look elsewhere.

Beyond left-back, Manchester United are also considering further additions to their squad — the signing of an additional midfielder remains a possibility as Carrick looks to shape his side ahead of the new season.
