Newcastle have completed the signing of midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Man City, with the deal set to reach £50m after add-ons.

The 24-year-old Spaniard becomes the seventh player to arrive at St James' Park this summer and will wear the No 6 shirt for the Magpies.

Gonzalez said farewell to his Man City team-mates on Tuesday morning before travelling north to Tyneside, where he completed his medical on Wednesday. He was then presented to Newcastle supporters ahead of their Carabao Cup tie against West Brom.

Jaissle's second signing

The midfielder is the second player recruited under head coach Matthias Jaissle, following the arrival of Amar Dedic from Benfica last week.

Gonzalez originally moved to Man City from Porto in February 2025. During his time at the club, he made 59 appearances and scored four goals, also earning caps at Spain U21 level.

Newcastle's summer business in full

Newcastle have been among the most active clubs in this transfer window. Their arrivals this summer include Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim (£42m), Aladji Bamba from Monaco (£35.5m), Amar Dedic from Benfica (£29.5m), Lukas Hornicek from Braga (£25.7m), Sean Steur from Ajax (£23m), and Ewen Jaouen from Reims (£18.5m).

On the other side of the ledger, the club have raised significant funds through the sales of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham (£100m), Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal (£75m), and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona (£69.3m). Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett left on free transfers to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull respectively, while Odysseas Vlachodimos joined Sevilla on loan and Emil Krafth along with John Ruddy were released.
