Newcastle United have reached an agreement worth up to £52 million to sign Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez, bolstering a squad that has lost several key players in recent months.

The club have endured a difficult summer, parting ways with Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, and Kieran Trippier. While their previous signings this window have all come from continental clubs, Newcastle recognised the necessity of bringing in a player with Premier League experience.

Gonzalez, 24, arrived in England from Porto and has spent a season-and-a-half in the Premier League. He fits the age profile head coach Matthias Jaissle has been targeting — a player with room to develop further under his guidance at St James' Park.
