Newcastle United have moved ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion in the battle to sign Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna, tabling a bid of €24 million for the AIK winger — surpassing Brighton's offer of €22–23 million.
Swedish reports indicate that AIK are now in active negotiations with both Premier League clubs, with an announcement on Yohanna's destination expected before the end of the week.
A rapid rise through the ranks
Yohanna, 18, arrived at AIK from Nigeria's Ikon Allah Football Academy last year and swiftly moved from the club's Under-19s to the first-team squad after catching the eye at youth level.
He has since delivered five goals and four assists in 12 appearances for the Swedish side — a remarkable return for a player still in his teens.
AIK's scouting manager Fredrik Wisur Hansen has been effusive in his praise.
